Overdue Reviews: Dune 2

Futuristic soldiers fighting in the desert

Overdue Reviews is an occasional series in which I pretend to be a videogame journalist. This week: Dune II Battle for Arrakis on PC.

Dune 2 is often unfairly overlooked as the father of the modern RTS, obscured as it is by its younger and more successful offspring, Command and Conquer. I say this not only in a metaphorical sense but also in a quite literal one; my copy came bundled for free at the bottom of my Command and Conquer box.

Overdue Reviews: Subnautica

An underwater habitat in Subnautica

Overdue Reviews is an occasional series in which I pretend to be a videogame journalist. This week: Subnautica on PC.

I don't want to say much about Subnautica, because most of the joy of it is discovering it for yourself. If I described it in any detail, it would probably sound a little boring. But it isn't - and sound itself plays a key role.

But as I played more I found that the most interesting aspect was the stories I could create myself.

One of them was how I accidentally became a vampire.

Overdue Reviews: Interstate 82

A car driving out of an exploding tunnel.

Overdue Reviews is an occasional series in which I pretend to be a videogame journalist. This week: Interstate 82 on PC.

Interstate 82 was never going to be as good as Interstate 76. Even if the rule of inferior sequels wasn't almost universally true, dropping the unapologetically bold style of the 70s for the plastic and shoulder pads of the 80s was never going to be a better choice. The other mistake was the game's biggest touted feature - being able to get out of the car.

Never get out of the car.
