Overdue reviews: Orbital Bullet

A lone warrior shoots enemies in a metallic circular level, with explosions

Overdue Reviews is an occasional series in which I pretend to be a videogame journalist. This week: Orbital Bullet.

It's been a while since I've been properly hooked on a game, particularly a platform shooter.

I don't really have a lot to say about Orbital Bullet. I could explain that it's a sci-fi shooter with slick yet retro graphics, based on a progression run system, where after each death you can upgrade your abilities to improve your chances in the next run.

I could highlight the unusual circular level design, allowing you, your enemies and weapons fire to loop, introducing an interesting visual and tactical aspect to an otherwise straightforward platformer.

I could go into great detail about the vast and expanding array of novel weapons at your disposal, or the dynamic skill tree that adds new abilities and upgrades throughout the game, that can considerably change how you play.

I could ramble at length about all the extra finishing touches, like the hidden rooms, boss fights, route options, weapon and ability overcharging, shops, and extra challenges available once you've beaten the base game.

I could say all of that, but I'm far too busy jumping, dodging, exploding, upgrading and shooting. With laser boots.
