Dear the Post Office,
I write regarding the obvious overspend and clear inefficiencies of the Special Delivery Service operating from the Pencaster Mail Centre, and the professional conduct of Postman Pat Clifton.
Postman Pat has been commended for his job performance on numerous occasions despite the fact that his deliveries are frequently late or incomplete. Parcels are often improperly secured during transport or not packaged at all, resulting in loss and damage.
Pat is the only postman employed at the service and yet has a large number of vehicles at his disposal, presumably at tremendous cost to the taxpayer. The rural terrain of Pencaster can be adequately navigated using a standard Post Office van and does not require a vertical take off and landing aircraft.
In addition, many of the (at last count) eight vehicles have been customised with personalised number plates and specific addons to accommodate Pat's pet cat. While pets on deliveries are not strictly forbidden, the expense involved here is a clear breach of expenditure rules.
Considering the demonstrated incompetence of the sole postman, the huge budget overspend, and the limited needs of the community of Pencaster and Greendale (an area that could house several thousand people but is apparently populated by only about twenty, including children) the following steps are urgently needed.
- Postman Pat Clifton should be put onto immediate performance management measures and his responsibilities reduced. Further training may be required. He must also return the small postal van that he is using for personal use.
- An investigation of all deliveries in the last five years should be undertaken, to discover the extent of Pat's negligence and any risk to the public that has occurred.
- All expenditure at Pencaster Special Delivery Service should be halted immediately and a thorough review should be undertaken.
- Vehicles surplus to requirements should be sold and the money used to hire additional postal workers.
I trust that the Post Office will be taking this matter seriously.
