Yes, signing on can be a pain. Yes, they will ask you a sack load of questions. Yes, it will get frustrating. Some people have said to me that they will never set foot inside a job centre. Others assume they're not entitled to benefit. Some haven't even considered it.
Try to look at it this way. I worked for eight years, paying tax as I did so. My tax probably helped quite a few other people by paying for their benefit. So now it's my turn. Yes, it can be a lot of hassle, and for some a fairly humiliating experience. And they may not give you very much. But if you're entitled to it, why ignore it? Even a little money helps when you're not earning.
